Solar Tracker Platform - for solar cookers and bee's wax extractors

This simple single axis tracker is based on a design by Stan Wells. It will follow the sun from dawn to dusk. It uses two solar panels at right angles. If there is any difference in the amount of sunlight falling on these, it drives a motor until the difference is eliminated. Its a simple feedback mechanism.

Below, you can see the fully assembled solar tracker platform. There is just one, highly geared drive motor at the front, and two castor wheels at the rear.

Here is the schematic of the solar tracker electronics, showing the components used.

The relay set is available from Amazon here. 12V Relay Board, 2 Channel Optocoupler Relay Module High and Low Level Trigger(12V)

The motor is available from Amazon here. BEMONOC DC 12V 0.6RPM 6mm Shaft Low Speed High Torque Turbine Worm Gear Motor by DC GEAR MOTOR

The bracket for mounting the motor is available from Amazon here. Buwei JGY-370 worm gear mounting bracket for helical DC motor worm gear operation

The drive wheel is cut from a piece of wood and has a rubber tread from an old bicycle tyre. The flange to attach the wheel to the motor is available from Amazon here. 4Pcs Flange Coupling Connector, Rigid Guide Model Coupler Accessory, Shaft Axis Fittings for DIY RC Model Motors (6mm)

Most of these parts can also be bought from AliExpress for a much lower price.

I mounted the electronics and the battery inside a plastic enclosure with the 2 solar panels outside, as shown below.

I hope there is enough detail here for you to make a solar tracker for your self. Please contact me if you would like any additional information. seggy@sf-innovations.co.uk
